This week, the City Council heard a presentation that I requested about a central question -- should we pay for today's services today, or should we pass these costs on to our children to pay tomorrow? The presentation confirmed what many of us have long suspected; we are saddled today with some of the costs for services rendered long ago. While we did not create this problem, I believe it is our duty to begin addressing it.
The presentation at Council showed that funding some of these obligations now could save us considerable sums in future years. What do you think? How should we as a community ensure that we do not unfairly burden future generations? Long Beach is the only city I am aware of to be asking this fundamental question by broadly looking at our unfunded liabilities and I will continue to ask the tough questions necessary to make Long Beach great for the long term.
We also had a presentation about exploring a new City Hall. Please take a look at the presentation and let me know your input on this project.
